* New York Yanks in New York mag

Will Leitch,  now a member of the brotherhood of journalism he so railed against as editor of Deadspin, wrote this piece on the resurgence of the Bronx Bombers.

Among the questions that need answering, according to Leitch:

  • What about that fifth starter? (That is, how do you go: Wang or Hughes?)
  • Can middle relief be saved? (Perhaps.)
  • Is Jorge Posada going to be okay? (So far, so good, but don’t make him catch.)
  • Will Jeter become a handicap? (Sadly, yes.)
  • Is this team the one that can finally break the championship drought? (Drought? Let’s see, the Yankees last won the World Series in what, 2000? According to my calculations — and by “my calculations” I mean Baseball-Reference.com — The Cubs were last in the Fall classic in 1945; the Reds 1990; the Pirates, 1979; the Orioles, 1983; the Royals, 1985… shall I go on? Man, are the Yankees and their fans spoiled.)

Oh, there’s also a cute piece about Michael Lewis coaching his 10-year-old daughter’s softball team. Been there, done that, but not as a best-selling author.
