* It's a "Natural"

Sorry to mix baseball titles, but the Henry Wiggen blog finally reviews Mark Harris’ Bang the Drum Slowly.

Upshot:

If “The Southpaw” is the baseball version of the Great American Novel, “Bang the Drum Slowly” is the classic American story.

In an aside, the writer notes that Robert DeNiro, who played the dying catcher, Bruce Pierson, seemed an unlikely choice, not looking much like an athlete and being so much shorter than co-star Micharl Moriarty. Perhaps he wasn’t, but just as a comparison, I would suggest taking a look Yogi (5’8″) Berra and Don (6’4″) Larsen. That seemed to work out pretty well.
