Last summer, during his first full season in the major leagues, he read 17 books. He recently finished off the 900-page “Roots” by Alex Haley.
Which made me think of this line from Bull Durham by Max Patkin to Susan Sarandon:
Hey–that’s Crash Davis. He’s played in more towns than I have. Helluva guy–real different… I actually saw him read a book without pictures once.
