* Now hear this: Lisa Winston

April 2, 2009

A veteran of the minor league beat, Lisa Winston has been a writer, reporter, columnist, and multimedia correspondent  for such outlets as USA Today, Baseball/ Sports Weekly and, most recently,  MLB.com. She is a frequent guest on radio and TV sports talk shows around the country, and was the original host of the Fox News Channel’s live sports talk show, Fox on Sports Sunday. She is a proud inductee of the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (2003) and co-author of The Minor League Baseball Book (1995).

Her GotMilb blog remains one of the most popular about the minor league scene. But don’t look for statistics and projections. Winston is all about the personalities and bringing unsung — and perhaps future — heroes to our attention.

Together with her husband, Wayne Wilentz, a professional musician, Winston recently embarked on a new project: Baseball Honeymoon, a entertaining bi-weekly podcast that provides analysis, commentary, and fun features such as “best baseball books” (an obvious favorite here).Look for it on iTunes or Switchpod (and take a moment to give it a review).

Winston took some time to talk about her work with the Bookshelf.

Lisa rules! One of my fave columnists and video interviewers, she has a rare talent for finding the story and treating “subject ledes” like people, all with grace and humor. A brainy and classy gal, with a heart of gold. . .BeesGal
