* Lest we forget: Arthur Richman

March 25, 2009

The long-time baseball writer and executive died today at the age of 83. After spending 25 years with the Mets as promotions director, traveling secretary, public relations director, and special assistant to the general manager, Richman joined the Yankees in May, 1989 as senior VP. He had a hand in the hiring of Joe Torre as the team’s skipper back in 1995.

Here’s an official statement via the Yankees. And a nice tribute by Kevin Davidoff on Newsday.com.

Richman, who received the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Dick Steinberg “Good Guy” Award in 1999,  was predeceased by his brother, Milton,  an award winning sportswriter and editor for United Press International.
