A thing of beauty is a joy forever

February 16, 2009

Some kids get their love of baseball from their father. Mine was from the old country, born in Russian, coming to the U.S. when he was 16. He never took to sports like some new arrivals do to become “more” American.

My father’s main form of relaxation was drawing and he was quite good at portrait work. So what he gave me was a love for the work of Norman Rockwell. Naturally I was drawn to his baseball themes, including The Rookie, which is the subject of this article from the Sunday issue of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
