At the risk of cutting off my nose to spite my face, I have to say that I never got the whole “critic” thing. I guess people want someone to give them advice on what to read/see/listen to and what to avoid. And that’s basically it. They can do without all the fancy language and snobby analogies and references. “Just tell me: should I or shouldn’t I? Is it worth the money and time or not?”
That’s why I like what Time magazine has done with this critique of Dave Zirin’s new book, A People’s History of Sports.
So remember, Time: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
