Many years ago, the New Yorks Mets operated a marketing campaign on the theme, “baseball like it ought to be.” Unfortunately, baseball ought to be good, or at least enjoyable, but if memory serves, this campaign ran at a time when they were stinko.
I offer this as an introduction to this “Rites of Summer” series in The Boston Globe about the nostalgia of listening to baseball on the radio.
Much as been writen about sitting on a front porch on a warm summer’s night, listening to the sounds of the game from far off cities. This article tries to recapture those feelings. There’s also a cute video accompanying the text (after an obligatory annoying advertisement).
