* Announcement: Chronicling the Hall of Fame Game

June 23, 2008

From a press release:

To commemorate the final installment of the annual Baseball Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown, Baseball Comes Home: The History of the Baseball Hall of Fame Game – 1940-2008, the new book by noted baseball author Dan Valenti, will be published Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, July 26-27.

The book traces the 70-year series of the Hall of Fame Game beginning in 1939, the year the Hall of Fame opened with its initial inductees (including Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb), to this year’s final tilt between the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres, to be played at historic Doubleday Field on June 16th in Cooperstown. The classic series began in 1939 with a pickup game to mark Major League Baseball’s Centennial. That game featured Ruth, Lefty Grove, Honus Wagner, and other Hall of Famers and All Stars.

Valenti has authored many baseball books, including The Impossible Dream Remembered, Clout!, and Under a Grapefruit Sun.

Baseball Comes Home documents in evocative text and stunning photos the game that annually paid tribute to baseball in the village that bears the honor of “Birthplace of Baseball.” The keepsake book will feature many photos from the Hall of Fame archives that have never been published before.
