* Review: We Would Have Played For Nothing

April 7, 2008

The Memphis Commercial Appeal offers this “capsule” review of Fay Vincent’s second volume of oral history on the players of the the 1950s and 1960s. Not quite The Glory of Their Times, but as baby boomers get older, these are the heroes of their youth. As can be expected of a book of this kind, the results are mixed.

Not every interview is equally fascinating. Harmon Killebrew was a very good, if one- dimensional, player, but you could probably get a more interesting interview out of Babe the Blue Ox.

WNYC’s Brian Lehrer Show aired this interview with Vincent at the end of March.
