This week (Sept. 17) in Sports Illustrated

September 12, 2007

Cover story: Football again.

Baseball coverage:

  • Alex Rodriguez is included in “As Good as It Gets,” by Phil Taylor. Along with Roger Federer and Tiger Woods, A-Rod is celebrated for his accomplishment of hitting seven home runs in five games.
  • “For the Record” takes a look at “The Unnatural,” a.k.a Rick Ankiel. The former pitcher has been one of the feel-good stories of the year — until it came out that he was taking HGH. Should that automatically damn him? Of course not, but people are very quick to judge, especially in light Barry Bonds and the whole steroids fiasco.
  • Tom Verducci penned “The Woes of the O’s” as the Orioles face their worst season in recent memory.
  • Yankees rookie pitcher Phil Hughes answers “The Questions”
  • Arizona Diamondbacks’  outfielder Eric Byrnes is the subject of Chris Ballard’s feature “Gnarly Hustle”
  • “Inside Baseball” takes a look the return of Pedro Martinez to the Mets starting rotation and the implications it could have for the post-season
